Steve Johnston, Artistic Director
Steve has been the Bloomington Chorale’s musical director since September 2003. Steve previously served as choral director and vocal instructor at the College of Lake County in Greyslake, Ill. Steve taught choral arranging and hymnology at Christian Life College in Mt. Prospect, Ill. In addition, his choral arrangements have been performed by the Bethel College Male Chorus and the Northwestern College choir. He has previously been a member/soloist with Antiqua Nova Chorale in Minneapolis and the Chicago Master Chorale in Chicago
Steve earned his AA from Normandale Community College, his BA in Music from Bethel College in St. Paul and his Masters from Trinity Divinity College in Illinois. Steve is pastor of Snake River Free Mission Church in Becker, MN, and also offers private music lessons. Since 1989 Steve has been director of Men of Praise, a Twin Cities-based men’s chorus. During the summer, Steve’s ventriloquism and puppetry skills dazzle Kindercare preschoolers in the Twin Cities.
Casey Rafn, Accompanist, Piano
Casey is a graduate of the University of Iowa with an MA in Piano Performance. He has taught independent private lessons from 2006 to the present and is serving as church pianist and choir accompanist at a Twin Cities church. Casey has been a guest artist with Notre Dame of Maryland University, the Hungarian Embassy, Washington, D.C. as well as in recital with Anthony Ross, principal cellist of the Minnesota Orchestra.
